Contact lines
Precision: Always hooked up
Never loosing its focus on the project at hand and its solution, Balfour Beatty Rail plans and assembles turnkey contact line systems. They fulfil their customers most demanding requirements.
Balfour Beatty Rail supplies standard contact line systems as well as tailor-made systems. Its applications range from city and local traffic to long-distance and high-speed traffic. Depending on the traffic system, local conditions and the requirements of customers, Balfour Beatty Rail builds the contact line systems as an overhead-line or current-rail system.
The customer is provided with tested, seasoned and reliable systems requiring little maintenance due to their standardised components. They comply with the EU standards for railway applications.
Mainline

Special Solutions for Overhead Contact Line Systems: Catenary Lifts
Field of application: level crossing, lift bridges, container terminals, depots
Without influence on the catenary's geometry the catenary is lifted upwards to either allow loading or unloading or passing of oversized vehicles.
Underground transit
- Up to 80 kph, third rail painted from below, made of aluminium with stainless steel surface
- Current rail carrier made of steel and insulating glass-fibre-reinforced plastic
Overhead conductor rail
- up to 25 kph, for maintenance workshops, profile made of aluminium with grooved cupper contact wire
- up to 140 kph, for tunnel equipment suspended on hinged or drop supports
