Establishment of electrical train operation between Hamburg and Lübeck-Travemünde
It happened on December 13, 2008: Deutsche Bahn AG celebrated the start-up of electrical train operation on the Hamburg-Lübeck-Travemünde route as well as to the Lübeck ports. Dr. Eckard Martin, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty Rail: "The promise given by Hartmut Mehdorn on August 23, 2006 was honoured. All the technical problems were resolved in a partnership-like relationship between Deutsche Bahn and industry." A symbolic first pile driven in in Bad Oldesloe inaugurated the construction work for the electrification of the Hamburg-Lübeck-Travemünde route on August 23, 2006. Since then, 3,200 overhead line masts and a total of 191 kilometres' overhead traction line have been installed. Balfour Beatty Rail reported.
