22 of Feb 2010

The expansion of the Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport requires a high-performance rail connection to the DB AG rail network. Building new rail lines to the new airport terminal for long distance trains and the S-Bahn constitutes one of DB AG's largest infrastructure projects.

The BBI rail connection project encompasses the erection of a new power supply system for the S-Bahn and long distance trains, the overhead electrification cabling, as well as 7.2 km of overhead conductor rails for the long distance trains in the tunnel. Furthermore, the project includes the entire 50Hz electronic tunnel equipment and the connection to the electronic signal tower equipment and connection to the electronic signal tower.

Balfour Beatty Rail's expert competence in the various fields and its many years of experience in completing large projects were the reasons why the company won the tender.
